Your thyroid gland is your body’s regulator. An imbalance of your thyroid health can affect every metabolic function in your body. Since it is your body’s regulator, it needs to be functioning at an optimal level. Thyroid Hormone exists in two major forms: Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3).
T4 is the inactive form that is produced in the thyroid gland and then converted to T3, the active form. If your thyroid is not functioning properly, then your body can’t build muscle.
Other functions of the thyroid include:
It is common for thyroid problems to appear at menopause. Your ovaries have thyroid receptors and your thyroid gland has ovary receptors, therefore when we lose estradiol and testosterone from our ovaries at menopause, it will have an effect on your thyroid.
Many things affect our conversion or T4 to T3. Some of these include prescription medications, chronic illness, high cortisol, high estrogen, metal toxicities, high carbohydrate diet, selenium deficiency and inadequate protein intake. Many other factors can contribute as well.
Some symptoms of hypothyroidism:
Most people who are taking thyroid replacement, need to take both T3 and T4. A T4/T3 combination or straight T3 alone may be preferable to taking T4 alone. We are able to compound plant based T4 and/or T3 as well as thyroid (porcine) which is an animal based fixed T4/T3. Depending on your disease state and serum levels, we can work with your doctor to determine the right dose and drug regimen for you.
We compound our thyroid medication free of corn, lactose, gluten and other allergens that can affect the thyroid. Please contact us to discuss more about your thyroid health and supplements that can help you.
